What is the
NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disability. It moves away from the previous system of providing block funding to agencies and community organisations, to direct funding for individuals. The NDIS is a federally managed and funded safety net, providing a nationally-consistent, lifetime commitment to people who have permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services. The NDIS is not welfare, it is an insurance-based scheme that invests in participants to improve long-term outcomes. Frequently Asked
Question
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent government agency. The main role of the NDIA is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and ensure people with disability receive the support they need.
The NDIS will work with you to establish what reasonable and necessary supports and services you need to live your life and achieve your goals and then provide you with funding to make this happen. Supports that you can receive funding for will vary based on your individual needs and goals. According to the NDIS, the types of supports they fund include: Day-to-day activities such as showering, dressing and preparing meals Transport to participate in normal events such as school, social groups and daily life activities Workplace help so you can obtain and keep employment Therapeutic supports such as speech pathology, occupational therapy and behaviour support Household tasks to enable you to keep living in your home and build independence Home modifications to ensure you’re able to comfortably live in your environment Mobility equipment and vehicle modifications If support is not directly related to your disability, the NDIS will not fund it. If you have any questions about funded supports, contact us on 0401 700 396 or 0401 021 235
- The NDIS will not replace the Disability Support Pension. The NDIS is a separate national fund to support your reasonable and necessary needs, associated aids and equipment

Self-Managed – You or your nominee can manage the funds directly, with responsibility for transactions with your service providers.
